In the next few months, if not already, if you have Windows 10 on your laptop or desktop computer you may get a Pop-Up Warning message saying that your Windows 10 version is reaching its End-Of-Life and to upgrade to Windows 11.
This is not something to ignore. What does it mean for you?
Support for all versions of Windows 10 expires on 14 October 2025. After this date Windows 10 will still continue to work, however, computers with Windows 10 will no longer receive Fixes, New Features and most importantly Security Updates, potentially leaving your computer open to hacks, viruses, ransomware etc.
At the same time, applications like Google Chrome, which follows Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle policy, will also start withdrawing support for Windows 10 meaning these applications will either stop receiving updates (making them vulnerable to malware) or will just stop working entirely.
The effect will be to make Windows 11 the new standard. It comes with many new features, including increased security and productivity, along with:
- Better resistance to Malware and other nasties;
- A more consistent Interface that is touch-friendly, easier on your eyes to look at and interact with;
- Improved included Apps, for example, a simple video editor suitable for small businesses or home use and an updated Photos app making edits easier, faster and simpler;
- A better Screenshot tool (for taking screen grabs or recording screen video);
- Better Gaming performance and Gaming experience.
