Have you set up your own or your business Google account and did you set up Account Recovery Information in Google at the same time?
It is vitally important to have Account Recovery Information setup in your Google account as if you’re unable to remember your password, and you don’t have Account Recovery Information setup then you could lose access to your entire Google account including Google Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs etc.
We have, unfortunately, had instances over the last few months where this has occurred, and it hasn’t been possible to recover their Google account, everything they had saved in Google was lost. The options in this situation are very limited due to the security Google places on Google accounts meaning it isn’t possible to email or phone Google to recover an account including contacting their office in Auckland.
A new Google account has had to be created including a new email address, new documents etc.
If you do inadvertently forget your Google account password, it is possible to recover your Google account providing you have the following:
- the account needs to have previously had a Recovery phone number added which needs to be a mobile phone number with an active mobile plan.
- the account needs to have previously had a Recovery Email Address added, which is unable to be the Gmail address of the Google account holder.
Ideally, we recommend seeking agreement from a friend, family member or relative to use their email address.
If you have any concerns regarding your Google account, are unsure if you have Account Recovery Information setup in your Google Account or would like help adding Recovery Information to your Google Account, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
