A.I…..it seems to be everywhere; everyone seems to be talking about it. What is it
and how can it help you in your business or at home?
A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), is computer software that mimics how humans think, it’s
able to perform tasks such as reasoning, learning, and analysing information. An
incredibly powerful tool.
You’ve possibly heard of or used some of these common examples of A.I.:
– ChatGPT
– Google Translate
– Numerous different Microsoft Co-Pilots
– Numerous different Virtual Assistants, including Siri, Alexa, Hey Google
– Robotics, for example, robots capable of doing complex surgeries with only
minimal human input.
The opportunities to use A.I. are huge, from automating tasks; processing large
amounts of data and summarising it; detecting anomalies and/or patterns in
financial data potentially indicating fraudulent behaviour, to name just a few.
Before embracing A.I., as with any technology, it does have positives and negatives.
Potential positives include business operational costs can be reduced due to greater
efficiencies; assists smart decision making; increased accuracy for certain repetitive
tasks; generates smart new content such as text or images.
Potential negatives include increased operational efficiencies could bring job losses;
Increased cybersecurity risks; unclear decision making bringing about less-than optimal
solutions: creation of misinformation that inadvertently violates laws and
regulations.
When using new technologies like A.I., research what it is and what it isn’t, keeping in
mind French author, Voltaire’s quote popularised by Stan Lee’s Spiderman “With
great power, comes great responsibility.”
